'200 monas'- jan saenz
im gonna come... to my senses
When @plotmalfunction reached out to me on Instagram asking me if she could buy me a book from my TBR, I knew ‘200 Monas’ would make it on my list. I’ve been seeing raving reviews for this book everywhere the past few weeks. I was overly excited when she sent me not only one but TWO of my most anticipated reads- this one and Virgina Evans’ ‘The Correspondent’. I rushed to pick this up first, and although I didn’t enjoy it as much as I anticipated (I really thought it would be an easy 5 star read for me), I still adored it and had such a fun time reading it. I read it back and forth as the physical gifted copy and as an audiobook. I liked both, but honestly thought the narrator did an amazing job with the audio and slightly preferred it to be honest

After Arvy’s mom dies from crashing her car into a tree, things get tough. It’s her final semester of college and she can’t wait to get out of the Texas college town she lives in and leave everything behind. The only thing left in her name is the house, no money otherwise, so Arvy decides to sell it. But there’s a catch written in her mother’s will- she has to graduate college and get a career doing what she went to school for (pharmaceuticals). She has everything lined up- an internship in San Francisco, her final exams, a buyer for the house. Her trajectory is thrown off course when a bag of pills fall out of an empty bedroom closet in her mom’s room. She thinks it’s molly at first because of the ‘m’ stamped in the center, but when the original dealers show up looking for cash, she realizes that it’s not what she thought. In the plastic bag are 200 Monas- rare pills rejected by big pharma for causing the most intense orgasm you will ever experience. The OG dealers tell Arvy that she has 48 hours to sell the pills (which her mom was supposed to) or else. We follow Arvy on a wild goose chase over the course of two days trying to sell the pills- befriending a sexy drug dealer (Wolf) on campus, rushing to finish up and ace all of her final exams, and trying a few Monas of her own. What could go wrong?
Some of the dialogue and the overall connection between Arvy and Wolf made me feel like I should be looking the other way the entire time. There were a lot of scenes depicting awkward sexual tension. I enjoyed this read a lot and can definitely see this as a movie. If you enjoyed ‘Annie Bot’ and ‘Margot’s Got Money Troubles’ you will probably enjoy this as well.
